Product Description

The Owner's Insights on the Magno Champion

The Champion is what you get when you take SAM's coin-operated Magno and strip the coin box out of it. Same cabinet, same slate, same cushions, just nothing to feed between racks. The detail that stood out to me testing this range is the rail itself: most American tables run a metal strip along the top of the cushion, and it catches your cue on a low bridge shot more often than people expect. SAM leaves that strip off the Champion, so the rail stays flat and your cue slides through cleanly. Levelling is a two-minute job with a spanner too, no tipping the table onto its end once it's in position. This suits a proper family games room getting regular use, not a spare corner nobody visits. If pool for you means twice a year at Christmas, you don't need slate at all, an MDF table will do that job fine and cost a lot less.

Why You'll Love the Magno Champion

  • No coin mechanism to worry about. It's freeplay from the first game, so there's nothing to feed, jam, or ever need replacing.
  • No metal strip along the cushion. The rail stays flat end to end, so your cue bridges cleanly instead of catching on a seam.
  • One-piece diamond-honed slate bed. Ground and levelled at the factory before it ever reaches you, so the roll stays true rack after rack.
  • Spanner-only levelling. Adjust the feet once the table's in position, no need to tip it onto its end to get it flat.
  • Six Atlas cloth colours and nine cabinet finishes. Real choice for matching a games room, without needing a custom order.
  • 57mm ball set and wide American pockets. Faster, higher-scoring play that's easier for newer players to pick up than English pool.

Why You Should Consider a SAM Pool Table

SAM has been building slate-bed tables for decades, and most of what you're paying for sits in parts you'll never see: the frame, the cushion rubber, how the rails fix down. It's the engineering behind tables that survive years of pub and club use, backed by SAM's own warranty and our support if you ever need it.

Freeplay vs Coin-Operated Pool Table: Why the Magno Champion Suits a Home Games Room

If you're weighing a freeplay pool table against SAM's coin-operated Magno, the choice usually comes down to where the table lives and who's paying for each game. A coin mechanism earns its keep in a pub or club, where every rack needs paying for and someone has to empty the cash box afterward. None of that has a job to do in a private games room, which is why the Champion skips it. Rack up whenever you want, no meter running and no coins to keep topped up by the table, just pool the moment you fancy a game.

Six Atlas speed cloth colours and nine cabinet finishes, six standard and three premium, cover most of what people want on the Champion, from a natural oak family tone through to gloss black. If none of those feel right, or you're trying to match a colour scheme already in the room, message the team directly and we'll talk through what's possible beyond the swatches shown.

SAM Magno Champion Specifications

No coin mechanism here, this is the freeplay Magno Champion. The aluminium top rail runs the full length of the cushion and fixes down with bolts rather than clips, so the cushion response holds steady in the corners instead of softening over time the way a clipped rail can. Internally, the ball return runs are carpeted to keep things quiet, and levelling feet let the table be set dead level on-site without anyone needing to lift or tip it.

Table dimensions and weight by size:

Size Exterior (L x W x H) Playing surface Weight
6ft 210 × 120 × 82.5cm 180 × 90cm 260kg
7ft 230 × 130 × 82.5cm 200 × 100cm 275kg
8ft 254 × 142 × 82.5cm 224 × 112cm 350kg
9ft 284 × 157 × 82.5cm 254 × 127cm 425kg

Room Size Requirements by Cue Length

For the best playing experience, allow enough space to use a full-length cue comfortably from every side of the table. Recommended room dimensions by cue length:

Table 48″ cue 52″ cue 57″ cue
7ft 14'10″ × 11'7″ 15'6″ × 12'3″ 16'4″ × 13'1″
8ft 15'8″ × 12'0″ 16'4″ × 12'8″ 17'2″ × 13'6″
9ft 16'8″ × 12'6″ 17'4″ × 13'2″ 18'2″ × 14'0″

If your room's under 12ft long, the 7ft table is worth a closer look before you commit to something bigger, it'll feel a lot less cramped around the pockets. Looking at 6ft instead? Send us your room dimensions and we'll talk you through what actually fits, no pressure.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between the Magno Champion and the SAM Magno Coin Operated?

They share the same cabinet, slate bed, cushion system and top rails. The Champion is freeplay, so there's no coin mechanism, just rack up and play whenever you like.

Is the Magno Champion suitable for a home games room?

Yes, it's a genuinely popular choice for home use. It's built to the same commercial-grade standard as SAM's coin-operated tables, just without the coin mechanism, so you get the durability without paying for a feature you don't need at home.

Does the Magno Champion use a slate bed?

Yes. It has a one-piece, diamond-honed 20mm slate bed, which is what gives it a true, consistent roll.

What cloth and cabinet colour options are available?

The standard Atlas American Speed Cloth comes in six colours: Black, Blue, Burgundy, Green, Purple and Red. Cabinets come in six standard finishes, with Silver, White and Black available as premium options.

What size room do I need?

It depends on the table size and cue length. See the Required Room Size section above for a full breakdown, or give us a call and we'll talk it through.
