For English pool, 7ft is the size used in most pubs and leagues, so choose it if your room takes it. A 6ft table suits smaller rooms, and one you can cue around properly plays better than a 7ft squeezed in. American tables are bigger again.
You need room to cue on every side. These are the room sizes our manufacturers give for a standard 57in cue:

Nearly all of them. Slate gives a flat, consistent playing surface, and even our lowest-priced table, the DPT Omega Classic at £1,449, has a slate bed. The exceptions are the Heemskerk Solid Feet, which has an MDF bed; the Dynamic Diner, which has a composite board; and the outdoor Cornilleau Hyphen, Classic and Origin, which have weatherproof board or HPL composite surfaces. Delivery is included on most tables to mainland England and Wales, and installation is included on most American and premium slate-bed tables. Deliveries involving stairs carry an extra charge. It depends on the table size and your cue length. With a standard 57in cue, SAM recommends a room of at least 14'11″ × 12'5″ for a 6ft English table and 15'11″ × 12'11″ for a 7ft. American tables need more: about 16'4″ × 13'1″ for a 7ft and 18'2″ × 14'0″ for a 9ft. Shorter cues reduce these figures.

For a consistent game, yes. Slate stays flat and gives a truer ball roll than MDF. Nearly every table we sell has a slate bed, including our lowest-priced table, the DPT Omega Classic at £1,449.

English pool tables use 2in balls, tighter pockets and 6ft or 7ft tables. American pool tables use larger 57mm (2¼in) balls, wider pockets and larger tables, usually 7ft to 9ft. The two aren't interchangeable, so buy the table for the game you'll play most.

Outdoor pool tables are built with weather-resistant materials, but that doesn't mean they should sit uncovered all year. Most manufacturers recommend keeping the table covered when it's not in use, and some advise storing it undercover over winter. Check the care guidance on the product page for the table you choose.
