"7ft" describes the size class, not an exact measurement, and the two games use different sizes. A 7ft English (UK) pool table has a smaller playing area than a 7ft American table and is played with smaller balls, so the two tables aren't interchangeable.
| 7ft English (UK) pool table | 7ft American pool table | |
|---|---|---|
| Typical playing area | 186 × 94 cm or 183 × 91 cm | Mostly 200 × 100 cm or 198 × 99 cm |
| Typical outside size | About 210–218 × 118–123 cm | Mostly about 224–236 × 126–136 cm |
| Balls | 2in reds and yellows | 57mm (2¼in) spots and stripes |
| Room needed with a 57in cue | 15'11″ × 12'11″ (SAM figures) | 16'4″ × 13'1″ (SAM and Buffalo figures) |
| From | £1,449 | £2,395 |
Figures are taken from the product pages. Exact sizes vary by table, and a few American 7ft tables have a smaller bed, such as the Dynamic Vancouver III (188 × 94cm) and the Cornilleau Hyphen (190 × 94cm). Browse all English pool tables or American pool tables.
The room matters more than the table. You need space to draw the cue back on every side, so the room size depends on your cue length. These are the minimum room sizes our manufacturers publish for 7ft tables:
| Cue length | 7ft English (SAM) | 7ft American (SAM and Buffalo) |
|---|---|---|
| 48in | 14'5″ × 11'5″ | 14'10″ × 11'7″ |
| 52in | 15'1″ × 12'1″ | 15'6″ × 12'3″ |
| 57in | 15'11″ × 12'11″ | 16'4″ × 13'1″ |
Other makers give similar figures. DPT recommends around 16.5ft × 13.5ft for its 7ft tables, and Dynamic around 16ft × 13ft with a 58in cue. Check the product page for the exact figure for the table you want. If your room is only just big enough, a shorter cue helps for shots near the wall. If it's smaller than the 48in figures, a 6ft pool table will be the better fit.
Don't forget the weight and the route in. Most slate 7ft tables on our site weigh roughly 230 to 330kg, and many arrive in several boxes with the slate supplied separately. Check doorways, stairs and floor loading before you order, and tell us about any tricky access.
Almost every 7ft table here has a slate bed, which gives a flat, consistent playing surface. The two exceptions are the Dynamic Diner, which has a composite board bed, and the outdoor Cornilleau Hyphen, which has a weatherproof board. Slate thickness is listed on each product page and is usually around 19 to 25mm. See all slate pool tables.
Delivery and installation terms vary by brand and are shown on each product page. Many of our slate tables are delivered and installed for you, but some are kerbside delivery only, and made-to-order tables take longer. If you're unsure what's included for the table you want, ask us before you order.
With a standard 57in cue, SAM recommends a minimum of 15'11″ × 12'11″ for a 7ft English table and 16'4″ × 13'1″ for a 7ft American table. With a 48in cue, that drops to 14'5″ × 11'5″ and 14'10″ × 11'7″.
Not by the published figures. Even with a short 48in cue, the minimum for a 7ft table is over 14ft in length. In a 12 × 12ft room, a smaller table will play better. See our 6ft pool tables.
It depends on the game. Our 7ft English tables measure around 210–218 × 118–123cm outside, with a playing area of about 186 × 94cm. Most of our 7ft American tables measure around 224–236 × 126–136cm, with a playing area of about 200 × 100cm.
Not properly. American pool uses larger 57mm balls and a bigger playing area, so buy the table for the game you'll play most.
Most slate 7ft tables on our site weigh roughly 230 to 330kg. The weight is listed on each product page.
