How does a coin-operated pool table work?
The table holds the balls inside the cabinet until a game is paid for. When a customer pays, the mechanism releases the rack. During the game, the cue ball comes back out each time it's potted, while the object balls stay inside until the next game is paid for. On the SAM Tempo, for example, a magnetic cue ball lets the table tell the cue ball apart from the others. The takings drop into a locked cash drawer or compartment.

Coin, token or contactless?
- Coin mechanisms are the traditional pub set-up. Electronic units, such as the SAM Samik and AccuVend systems or the DPT Omega Pro's electronic unit, let you set the price per game.
- Tokens suit venues that sell games at the bar or reward regulars. The Heemskerk Kick Shot and DPT Omega Outback Pro take tokens.
- Contactless means customers tap a card, phone or watch, so there's no change to collect. The Heemskerk Kick Shot offers it.
Can you set the price per game?
On most electronic mechanisms, yes. SAM's TriBand, available on the Atlantic, Balmoral and Magno, lets you set the price per game and charge different prices at different times, such as cheaper games when the room is quiet. The DPT Omega Pro's electronic unit is priced however you choose. The DPT Omega Outback Pro's mechanism is preset at the factory, so tell us the price you want when you order.
Can a coin-operated table be used as freeplay?
Several of these tables are sold either way. The DPT Omega Pro, Omega Outback Pro, Dynamic Premier, SAM Tempo and Heemskerk Kick Shot are ordered as coin-operated or freeplay. The SAM Atlantic, Balmoral and Magno each have a separate freeplay "Champion" version. If nobody will ever pay to play, choose freeplay: it costs less and there's no mechanism to look after. See our pub pool tables for the freeplay versions.
Looking after a coin mechanism
The coin mechanism and the cloth are the parts that wear first on a busy table. On the SAM Atlantic, for example, both are treated as wear items and sit outside the 12-month manufacturer's warranty. Owners report that chalk dust and debris are the usual cause of jams, so keep the mechanism clean and empty the cash drawer regularly.
Is delivery and installation included?
Delivery is included on most tables to mainland England and Wales, and installation is included on most American and premium slate-bed tables. Deliveries involving stairs carry an extra charge. Each product page shows exactly what's included, and the full terms are in our Delivery & Installation policy.
Coin-operated pool table FAQs
How much is a coin-operated pool table?
Our coin-operated tables start at £1,650 for the DPT Omega Pro. The SAM coin-operated tables start at £5,197.
Is a coin-operated pool table worth it at home?
Only if you want the pub mechanism for its own sake. For a home table that nobody pays to use, a freeplay version costs less and has no mechanism to service.
Do you sell used coin-operated tables?
No. Every table we sell is new.
