Product Description

The Owner's Insights on the SAM Balmoral

Most of the calls I get about the Balmoral come from someone setting up a table for genuine coin-op revenue, not just a home games room, and the detail that reassures them fastest is AccuVend. If a ball gets stuck in the tray after a game, the machine lets the next player re-vend it rather than eating the coin and triggering a refund dispute. It sounds minor until you've run a table without it. The gas-strut top frame is the other one worth mentioning: lifting it for a recloth or a quick look inside doesn't need two people and a crowbar, which matters if you're maintaining more than one table on a site.

This is genuinely built for a pub, club or games room where the table needs to earn its keep and take a beating from a rotating crowd of players. If you just want a freeplay table for evenings with mates rather than a revenue-generating coin mechanism, the Balmoral Champion is the better, and cheaper, fit.

Why You'll Love the SAM Balmoral

  • AccuVend re-vend technology. Eliminates the last-ball-retention problem that causes refund disputes and unnecessary downtime.
  • Choice of Samik 4 or Samik 3 TriBand coin mechanism. TriBand adds programmable price schedules, so you can run discounted or premium play times.
  • Gas strut top frame lift. Recloths and maintenance are a one-person job, no heavy lifting required.
  • Separate steel cash door. Keeps takings secured apart from the ball compartment, with optional steel plates and a chrome security bar.
  • Single-piece, diamond-honed slate bed. Keeps the roll true game after game, table after table.
  • Solid plywood cabinet. Stands up to pub and club use better than MDF, and can be repaired rather than replaced if it takes a knock.

Why You Should Consider a SAM Pool Table

SAM's tables have been the table of choice at the BAPTO Pool finals, the UK's biggest pub pool championship, for over 15 years. That's not marketing gloss, it's the same coin-op construction going onto a pub or club floor as goes into a tournament final, from a manufacturer that's been supplying serious play far longer than the current wave of home freeplay tables has existed.

Choosing the Right Size Balmoral for a Pub, Club or Games Room

Both sizes earn their keep, so the decision really comes down to where the table's going and how much room you can genuinely spare around it. The 6ft suits a snug pub corner or a games room where floor space is at a premium, using a 48in cue as the baseline you'll want roughly 13'5″ by 10'11″ clear. The 7ft plays closer to what regular league players expect and needs nearer 14'5″ by 11'5″. If you're placing this on a working pub or club floor with tight walking room around it, measure twice before committing to the 7ft, a cramped table gets fewer games played on it, not more.

The Mahogany and Oak veneers and the Silver, White and Black painted finishes shown above cover the popular Balmoral choices, along with the standard cloth options. If you're after a specific Hainsworth colour from the Smart or Elite Premium ranges, or a finish combination that isn't listed, get in touch and we'll put together a custom spec for your table.

Table dimensions and weight by size:

Size Exterior (L x W) Playing surface Weight
6ft 184 × 108cm 156 × 80cm 210kg
7ft 214 × 122cm 186 × 94cm 250kg

Room Size Requirements by Cue Length

For the best playing experience, allow enough space to use a full-length cue comfortably from every side of the table. Recommended room dimensions by cue length:

Table 48″ cue 52″ cue 57″ cue
6ft 13'5″ × 10'11″ 14'1″ × 11'7″ 14'11″ × 12'5″
7ft 14'5″ × 11'5″ 15'1″ × 12'1″ 15'11″ × 12'11″

If your room's on the tighter side, the 6ft is worth a look before you commit to the 7ft. Still not sure which size will actually fit, or how it'll work on your floor? Send us your room dimensions and we'll tell you straight which size makes sense.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between the Balmoral and the Balmoral Champion?

Same cabinet, slate bed and cushions. The Balmoral is coin operated for commercial use; the Champion is freeplay, built for the home.

Is the Balmoral suitable for a pub or club?

Yes, it's built specifically for that use, with AccuVend re-vend technology, a separate secured cash door and a bolt-secured top frame for consistent play under heavy use.

What coin mechanism does the Balmoral use?

A choice of two: the Samik 4 Standard Electronic, or the Samik 3 TriBand, which adds programmable price schedules for different play times.

Is the Balmoral an English or American pool table?

English pool, smaller reds and yellows, tighter pockets, and a game that rewards precise potting over power.

What size room do I need?

It depends on table size and cue length, see the Room Size Requirements section above for a full breakdown, or send us your room dimensions and we'll confirm what fits.

Does the Balmoral come with an accessory pack?

Yes, every Balmoral ships with a free accessory pack worth over £100, covering balls, cues, chalk and a triangle.
