Home pinball machine themes: ABBA, Queen, Alien or Predator?

With a licensed pinball machine, the theme is usually the first decision. Each of these is built around its music or films, with songs, footage and toys from the originals on the playfield.

• ABBA: more than 20 ABBA songs, music video footage and visuals from the ABBA Voyage show, with an interactive Arrival helicopter that locks balls for multiball and a spinning disco ball. Choose the Arrival Limited Edition or the Voyage Collector Edition. Some experienced players find the flippers softer than on other modern machines.
• Queen: 14 live songs from Budapest 1986 and Montreal 1987, concert footage on an 18.5-inch screen and call-outs recorded by the band. Brian May's Red Special guitar is an upper playfield with its own flipper. Choose the Champions Edition or the Rhapsody Limited Edition. Some players find the layout less polished than other modern machines, while praising the music.
• Alien: the Ellen Ripley Edition has a ball-eating Xenomorph, four flippers, two screens, and Alien and Aliens modes in one machine. The playfield is deliberately dark to match the films, so most owners play with the room lights on, and newer players can find it tough at first.
• Predator: the Predator is based on the 1987 film, with an interactive Predator, a choppa ball lock, a spinning Ol' Painless minigun and Alan Silvestri's score.

We've summarised what players say about each machine on its product page, including the less positive points. If gameplay matters more to you than the theme, talk to us and we'll help you compare.

Pinball machine dimensions and weight: will it fit?

A pinball machine needs its own footprint plus room to stand and play at the front. The Alien and Predator are widebody machines: the cabinet and playfield are wider than a standard machine, which leaves more room for toys and shots, so check the width. Pinball Brothers hasn't published dimensions for every machine yet, so ask us for the measurements of the one you want and check them against your doorways, stairs and the space where it will stand. The Queen Champions Edition weighs around 120kg, so plan the route in.

Limited edition pinball machines: which edition?

Three of our machines are limited editions: the ABBA Arrival (500 worldwide), the ABBA Voyage Collector Edition (300) and the Queen Rhapsody (1,000 numbered machines).

The ABBA and Queen games each come in two editions. Within each pair, the game, songs and playfield are the same, and the difference is the cabinet and extras.

• Queen Champions Edition or Rhapsody Limited Edition: the Rhapsody adds golden artwork and trim, a lit backboard and inner side blades, a sparkling shooter rod and a shaker motor, plus a numbered plaque and certificate of authenticity. The Champions Edition has a shaker motor connector, so a motor can be added later.
• ABBA Arrival Limited Edition or Voyage Collector Edition: the product pages list the same cabinet features for both: deep blue powder-coated legs and trim, a lit backboard, lit inner art blades and InvisiGlass. The main difference is the production run: 500 machines worldwide for the Arrival and 300 for the Voyage Collector Edition.
• Predator Trophy Pack: for £1,350 extra, it adds Starry Green trims, a shaker motor, anti-reflective glass, backbox mission lighting, a limited poster, a merchandise package and a service kit.

The Alien Ellen Ripley Edition also has a shaker motor connector fitted, so a motor can be added later.

Pinball machine FAQs

How many people can play?

The ABBA and Queen machines are for 1 to 4 players. For Alien and Predator, ask us and we'll confirm.

Do you sell Stern or second-hand pinball machines?

Not at the moment. Our range is new, licensed machines from Pinball Brothers, so we don't sell Stern, second-hand or vintage machines.
