Choosing Between the 8ft and 9ft Buffalo Century Pro

The 9ft is the full-size American tournament table, with a 254 × 127cm playing field. It needs a genuinely big room, at least 554 × 427cm, but it's the one to choose if you play seriously or want the same table size you'd find in a pool hall. The 8ft is where most home buyers land. Its 224 × 112cm playing field still feels serious, and it fits in a room of around 524 × 412cm.

Do Pro Players Play on 9ft Pool Tables?

Yes. Professional American pool, including the big 9-ball and 10-ball events, is played on 9ft tables. The larger playing field makes long pots harder and punishes loose cue ball control, which is why serious players like to practise on the same size they compete on. If you're training for league or tournament play and have the room, the 9ft Century Pro is the one to choose. For casual games with family and friends, the 8ft is more forgiving and easier to fit.

American Pool Table Sizes and Dimensions Explained

American pool table sizes are named by their approximate length. A 7ft table has a playing field of around 198 × 99cm, an 8ft around 224 × 112cm and a 9ft around 254 × 127cm, always in a 2:1 ratio. The overall table is bigger than the playing field once you add the rails, so the 8ft Century Pro measures 260 × 149cm and the 9ft measures 291 × 164cm.
