The Soccer School is a proper competition-size football table at a sensible price, and it's tough enough for a school canteen or an office break room. If you want one table that plays like a pro table but shrugs off daily use, this is where I'd start.

What I like most is the build. The rods are solid 18mm steel, so they don't bend on a hard shot and start rattling in the bearings like thinner rods do. The grey and black players are cast onto the rods rather than screwed on, so they can't snap off or work loose. The playing field is 5mm tempered glass, sandblasted for grip, and the corners slope so the ball never dies in a corner.

It comes in two versions. The standard Soccer School is open on top. The Soccer School Cover adds a toughened glass top that closes the cabinet, so balls can't go missing, drinks can't be spilt into the table and the game is noticeably quieter. Between games it doubles as a flat surface.

Standard or Cover: Which Soccer School Is Right for You?

• Soccer School: the open-top version. Ideal for offices, clubs and games rooms where players look after the table. Plywood cabinet with aluminium corner profiles and a metal base, 53kg.
• Soccer School Cover: the same table with a 5mm tempered glass top that encloses the playing field. Balls are fed in through a ball slot and come back via the ball return. Anodised aluminium legs (80 x 80mm), 70kg. Best for schools, sports clubs, hospitality and busy public spaces.

Continuous or Telescopic Rods?

You choose the rods when you order, at no extra cost. Continuous rods run in one piece through the table and come out on the far side when pushed. They're stiffer, with no play, so you get more control, more speed and the classic feel of a competition table. Telescopic rods are two pieces that slide into each other, so a rod never sticks out of the opposite side. That's the safer choice where young children play, and it also needs less space at the sides of the table.

As a simple rule: continuous rods for offices, canteens, clubs and adult players, telescopic rods for schools, after-school clubs and family homes with young children.
